Forming Charger for NEW NiCd & NiMH Batteries

This product has been specifically designed to "form" new NiCd and NiMH battery packs from 1 to 8 cells and capacities of 100 mAh through 5550 mAh.

Why FORM new batteries? Most battery manufacturers of NiCd and NiMH cells skip the last and very important manufacturing step. This step is called the "FORMING CHARGE" and completes the chemical processes within the battery. It takes 24 hours and cannot be rushed. That makes it expensive and ties up a lot of manufacturing capacity so it is usually skipped and left up to the consumer.

FORMING also assures that each cell in a pack starts off completely full so it can add the most to the battery cell "team effort". Without FORMING, a new NiCd or NiMH battery may only achieve 40% to 50% of it's rated capacity initially, and may never reach it's full potential.

The Sirius Pro Former is especially designed to properly FORM new NiCd and NiMH cells from 100 mAh to 5,500 mAh. Just attach a 12 volt supply, select your battery capacity and plug in your 1 to 8 cells battery pack. After 24 hours, your new pack will be completely formed and ready for 3 (NiCd) to 5 (NiMH) fast charge cycles. It will then be capable of achieving all the performance the manufacturer designed in, but didn't take the time to build in.

WHAT YOU CAN CHARGE

Sirius Charge Quad Channel will properly charge the larger NiCd & NiMH batteries commonly used in large radio controlled aircraft.

SIRIUS CHARGE OPERATION

Connect Sirius Charge to 12 volts DC (or an A/C outlet from 110 to 220V AC with Optional AC Adapter shown below).

HELPFUL HINTS:

Leave your batteries on charge as long as you like. When the green LED is flashing, Sirius Charge is in Pulsed Maintenance Mode. This is not a trickle charge! The full current charge and discharge pulses are carefully timed to chemically condition the cells, keep them fully charged, and eliminate NiCd "memory" effect without overcharging.

You may use your Sirius Charge without worry on brand new (never charged) batteries. Just remember, brand new batteries may only develop about half power the very first time you charge them. We suggest recharging with your Sirius Charge at least 3 times, and leave them on the charger overnight at least once.

You can charge your plane on the way to the flying field using a cigarette lighter adapter (available from Peak), or install banana jacks in the rear of your car or truck (trailer wiring harnesses often have a 12 volt "hot" lead).

SuperTest Pro is a sophisticated, highly precise discharger for testing the capacity of any rechargeable battery. Our custom microcomputer reports battery capacity in mlliAmp hours, so that you may compare the results directly with the rated capacity of the battery. The "Average Volts" display may be also be used to calculate battery "Watt Hours":
Average Volts (muliplied by) mAh = Watt Hours

SuperTest Pro shuts the discharge off automatically when the battery voltage drops to the programmed value. The computer continues to show the results on the display until you disconnect the battery.

SuperTest Pro can be used for evaluating the quality and capacity of a fully charged battery, or to determine "how much is left" in a partially discharged battery. SuperTest Pro is powered by a separate 12 volt power supply. It can be programmed to cut off from 1.0 volts to 14.0 volt in 0.1 volt steps, and discharge rates of 125, 250, 500, 750, 1000, 1500 or 2000mA.

Super Test Pro is supplied with a plug to fit Futaba and Airtronics transmitters, and an adapter to fit major brands of receiver batteries. If you wish to discharge a JR transmitter through its charging jack, Sirius can supply you with a JR Polarity Reverser (at extra cost).
