Siz Pack Mode

Pilots new to glass can transition with ease utilizing SkyView's new "six-pack" primary flight instruments. Familiar round gauge depictions bridge the classic "retro" instruments with the state-of-the-art. Pilots can switch between six-pack and the modernized EFIS display instantaneously. Six-Pack mode is included in the free SkyView 10 software update.

Dual and Large Engine Support

Customers with two engines can now equip with dual EMS modules to monitor each engine independently. Two engine modules can also be used by pilots with larger engines to monitor all of their EGTs and CHTs, eliminating the need for them to choose which cylinders to monitor. Up to 28 total EGTs and CHTs can be monitored along with all other typical engine sensors.

VFR Sectionals and IFR En-route Charts

SkyView's map gains geo-referenced VFR sectional charts and IFR Lo/Hi charts with SkyView 10 software. In another breakthrough pricing move, ALL US charts are available through a partnership with Seattle Avionics at no price increase from the existing procedure chart subscriptions. This means that $99 will buy customers a year of IFR/VFR procedure charts (plates), VFR sectionals, IFR Lo/Hi charts, and all FAA and Flight Guide airport diagrams. All products are geo-referenced. With US digital airport/aviation/obstacle data available free from Dynon's website, there aren't any added hidden database costs. SkyView customers in the US can have a complete paperless cockpit for under a hundred dollars a year.

SkyView 10 software: Dynons Biggest Release Ever!

The New SkyView continues to add value for all SkyView customers with its most substantial free software release yet. SkyView 10 software is due to launch at the end of March and includes over 30 new features including:
  • The ability to filter the nearest airport list by runway length, surface, and airport type.
  • ADS-B winds aloft forecasts.
  • Audible landing gear alerts based on aircraft configuration and airspeed for both retractable gear aircraft.
  • Airspeed-triggered 'gear up for water' / 'gear down for land' audible alerts for amphibious aircraft.
  • Altitude Intercept Arc that shows a cyan arc projected at the place on the map that the aircraft will intercept the altitude bug based on the current climb/descent rate.
  • Flight plans from ARINC-429 IFR GPS navigators such as the GNS and GTN series can be displayed on SkyView's map (including holds and other procedure turns) and SkyView's flight plan display.
  • Vertical Speed Required info item on the map and VSI tape gives the pilot quick insight about the descent rate needed to reach an adjustable point above/before the destination.
  • Engine instruments can now be livened up with new color options, including: blue, white, violet, cyan, and orange.

SkyView Displays: Very bright, high-resolution screens driven by advanced graphics processors create highly visible and readable display. Even in direct sunlight!

The SkyView displays are the heart of the SkyView system, and contain the main control CPU, graphics processor, and terrain data-base. Both the 7" and 10" displays are identical in functionality, with the only difference being screen size.

SkyView Displays utilize TFT active matrix LCD screens and LED backlighting technology for increased life span, more uniform brightness, and reduced power consumption.

Buttons and Joysticks: The SkyView System is designed for ease of use while flying. The most used functions are accessed via two rotary/multi-direction Joysticks, for fast intuitive commands. Almost all other in flight commands, using the widely spaced buttons, are only two button presses away. None or more than three button presses.

Redundancy: If two displays are in the system, either one can act as the Primary Flight Display, Moving Map, and Engine Monitor. The unlikely loss of either display will not affect the functionality of the other.

System Battery Backup:  A system backup battery will provide over an hour of backup power to a Display and Modules. Each Display requires its own Backup Battery for redundancy.

Connections: Each display contains:
1 - 37-Pin DIN Connector for the main wiring harness
2 - 9-Pin DIN Connector for the SkyView Networks
2 - USB Connectors
1 - Ethernet Connector (currently unused)

Main Harness: A main wiring harness is included with each display. It connects to the display via the D37 connector, with leads to connect to:
* Primary power
* USB Connector on a 3-foot lead
* 5 serial ports, including one for GPS NMEA input
* Audio output
* 4 Discrete general purpose inputs
* Panel dim input/output
* Battery backup connector

Dynon SkyView Display Planning

Designing a SkyView System for your aircraft is not complicated, but there are some details you should know. The following will help guide you in determining what components you need.

How Many Displays?
There are two reasons to have more than one Display: real estate and redundancy. Up to four displays can be networked together. It's true that just one display can show everything, namely the Primary Flight Display (PFD), Moving Map, and Engine Monitoring. However, adding a second display allows both to be dedicated for specific purposes. For example, the left display could show the PFD while the right display shows the Moving Map and Engine Monitor. In the unlikely event of a display failure, the remaining display can still show all data.

How Many ADAHRS?
One SV-ADAHRS-200 will provide flight data for up to four Displays. However, you can add one or more SV-ADAHRS-201s in order to provide redundancy. When connected by the SkyView Network, the primary ADAHRS will provide flight data to every Display. In the unlikely event of ADAHRS failure, the secondary or tertiary ADAHRS will provide flight data to every display.

Which Transponder?
A SkyView Mode-S transponder saves panel space with control and annunciation appearing on the SkyView displays. There are two models: the SV-XPNDR-261 for high performance aircraft, and the SV-XPNDR-262 for aircraft flying less than 15,000' and 175 Knots. The only difference between the two is the output power. Both add TIS traffic information, which graphically shows other aircraft position, altitude and trajectory in standard TCAS 1 format. (Note, TIS traffic is only available in the U.S. in Class B and C airspace with radar coverage. SkyView can also receive traffic information from the Zaon XRX, NavWorx, and GTX 330 products.) Also, both products are certified. Note - full ADS-B Out compliance will require that a TSO-C146A GPS (WAAS) be connected. NOTE ON U.S. COMPLIANCE: Currently the FAA ADS-B requirements specify the higher power Class 1 transponder. For U.S. customers, we recommend only the Class 1 SV-XPNDR-261.

Do I need an ARIC-429 Module?
The SV-ARINC-429 makes SkyView compatible with certified GPS receivers, such as the Garmin 430/530. If you have one of these GPS receivers, you should purchase the SV-ARINC-429 Module. It mounts within the avionics bay, and does not use any panel space.

How Are Displays Mounted?
The SkyView Displays use a simple but elegant mounting scheme. Simply cut a hole to size for the display, drill holes for the mounting screws, and attach nut plates. No tray is needed. The Displays unscrew from the front to allow easy removal and access to the inside of your instrument panel.

Wiring Harness:  Each SkyView Display comes with a Main Wiring Harness. It consists of a D37 connector and a variety of wire leads. One USB Port is included with 3-foot leads. The other leads are used for Primary Power, GPS Serial Input, four General Purpose Serial Inputs, Audio Output, Four Discrete General Purpose Inputs, Panel Dim In/Out, and a Backup Battery Connector. 9-Wire Network Cables are used to connect between Displays and Modules.

How Many Network Cables?
Each Display has two D9 Network Ports. Each Module has a single D9 Network Port. A cable is typically required between two Displays, between a Display and an ADAHRS Module, and between a Display and an EMS Module. SkyView Network Cables are made of aircraft quality Tefzel wires and come in a variety of lengths:
* SV-NET-3CC is three feet long
* SV-NET-6CC is six feet long
* SV-NET-10CP is ten feet long
* SV-NET-15CP is fifteen feet long
* SV-NET-20CP is twenty feet long
* SV-NET-25CP is twenty-five feet long
* SV-NET-30CP is thirty feet long
The first two have D9 connectors on both ends. The latter three have a D9 connector on one end, and on the other end pins are pre-crimped to the wires. Once the cables are routed through the aircraft, the second D9 connector can be easily affixed to the pins.

SV-NET-SERVO: This kit helps wire the autopilot servos. It includes 20" of Tefzel wires: two pairs of twisted 22 gauge network wires, one 22 gauge quick disconnect wire, and two 20 gauge wires for power and ground. Also included are three D9 connectors (one male, two females), 18 pins, a pin insertion tool, shrink tubing, and tie wraps. One kit is required for each servo. A crimping tool is required (not sold by Dynon) to attach the pins to the wire.

Test Cable: Each SkyView Display is shipped with a ten foot test cable. This cable is to be used for connecting the Display to the ADAHRS or EMS Modules before installation, to ensure proper functionality. They are NOT made of Tefzel wiring, and so should not be use for actual installation in the aircraft.

Backup Batteries: One SV-BAT-320 Backup Battery can be connected to each Display. A Backup Battery will supply over an hour of electrical power to one Display and the Modules connected into the SkyView Network, including a SV-GPS-250. A Backup Battery will not supply power to another Display in the System, so one SV-BAT-320 should be installed for each Display.

GPS Receiver: A GPS Receiver with a standard NMEA Aviation Output connects to a Serial Input on the SkyView Main Harness. We strongly recommend the SV-GPS-250 SkyView GPS Receiver because its power is provided by the SkyView System, including a Backup Battery in the case of an aircraft electrical system failure. And because it outputs GPS data at 5 times per second, unlike most other GPS receivers (Garmin, etc.) which output data at only 1 time per second. Other GPS receivers can be connected as back-ups via one of the other four serial ports.

OAT Probe: Each SV-ADAHRS-200/201 includes a SV-OAT-340 Outside Temperature Probe, including a 6-foot cable to connect between them.

EMS Module Setups: SkyView ships with default Lycoming 4-Cylinder engine sensor settings and screen layout.

Location Requirements - SV-D1000 and SV-D700: Observe the following guidelines when choosing a location for a SkyView display:
  • Displays require about 2.4” of free space behind the panel, depending on mounting surface thickness
  • The SkyView Display Harness (SV-HARNESS-D37) extends 3” from the back of the display.
  • Leave an inch beyond the physically required volume for the display’s heat sinks and fans to operate.
  • Avoid placing the display near heater vents or any source of extremely hot air.
  • The display should be easily viewable without any obstructions.
  • Displays have no internal sensors and do not need to be mounted in the same orientation as the ADAHRS or other modules.
  • Displays only support a landscape viewing orientation; do not mount in portrait orientation.
  • SkyView systems support up to four displays.

SkyView Version 4.0 - Worldwide Base Map Data, Better Mapping, and Better Redundancy
Most visible in Version 4.0 are improvements to the SkyView navigation mapping, with free base map data now available worldwide. These include towns, cities, roads, rivers, and rail roads. Airspace depiction is also greatly improved, with graphics that match the style and color of sectional type charts. European airspace details have been added to reflect all airspace categories. With the addition of all this new data, SkyView now de-clutters objects and names to create a highly readable and detailed navigation map. A SV-MAP-270 navigation mapping license is required to utilize the new base map data.

Version 4.0 also enhances SkyView system redundancy with annunciation of network faults and ADAHRS inconsistencies. All SkyView network cables have two sets of redundant data lines. Now, if a fault occurs on one data line it is annunciated on the SkyView display and all communications are automatically switched to the non-faulted data lines. Also, if an aircraft is equipped with two ADAHRS modules, and if the reported attitude or other information significantly differs between the two sensor modules, then a warning is displayed to the pilot. The pilot can then cross check other instruments and disable any ADAHRS that is malfunctioning.
